Fortunately the center console and glove compartments in the 5th Gen 4Runner are very spacious. However, excess space can lead to clutter, disorganization, and poor accessibility… especially when junk rambles around on the trail (or even on rough roads). Personally, I don’t store a ton in either space; my typical loadout includes:
Glove Compartment
Vehicle owners manuals
Warranty, registration, and insurance cards
Spare fuses
Spare tire stem covers
National park maps
Spare charging cables and 120V or 12V adapters
Other miscellaneous papers
Spare keys for hitch pin and pad locks
Center Console:
Non-essential membership cards/parking passes
Compact flashlight
Pens
Tire pressure gauge
Knife with window breaker and seat belt cutter
Napkins and disposable eating utensils
Microfiber cloth(s)
Ear plugs
Radios (when on camping or on trail)
Wife’s sunglasses (sigh)
As you might notice, it’s just a bunch of small things that inevitably cluster together if not organized well… thankfully I found some Salex organizers to keep clutter down to a minimum! There aren’t too many options on the market offering organizers for either spaces. Many designs are the same and none are very unique. I settled on installing the Salex Center Console Organizer Tray and Glove Compartment Dividers, which I found “on sale” through Amazon. Overall I am very happy with each add-on. Neither rattle after installed and they help keep the 4Runner organized (even if just the small stuff).
Center Console Organizer Tray
The center console tray is made of matte black ABS plastic and includes removable non-slip pads. The tray itself is divided in half to form two compartmentalized trays. The tray sits atop the lip of the center console, which leaves a generous space below that easily fits our two Midland GXT1000 radios, and then some. There’s not much to say here. Hopefully the photos speak for themselves.

Glove Compartment Dividers
The glove compartment organizers are simple flat panels of matte black ABS plastic with slits cut into them. There are a total of three short panels and one long panel in each set. The long panel will form the shelf, while the shorter panels form the vertical supports. Only one vertical support is needed since the ends of the long horizontal panel rest on ledges in the glove box. This allows for two different configurations… eight squares of similar size or two squares and two rectangles. I chose to use the two squares and two rectangles configuration since I mostly store miscellaneous papers in the glove box.
